On the morning of May 30, I was helping my mother use the restroom as usual. After making sure she was seated safely, I told her to call me if she needed anything. I had just stepped away when suddenly, I heard a loud crash. I rushed back and found my mother lying facedown on the floor, her forehead in a pool of blood. I cried out, “Mom! Mom!” It felt like my heart had shattered into a thousand pieces.
I immediately woke my son, Shougang, and he gently carried his grandmother back to bed. I stopped the bleeding and tried to comfort her. To our surprise, my mother calmly said, “It doesn’t hurt.” I checked her cognitive responses, speech, limb movements—everything seemed normal. Still, we rushed her to the emergency room at San Leandro Hospital.
At nearly 90 years old, my mother underwent a CT scan right away. The results showed a 4mm brain hemorrhage in the frontal lobe. She was referred to Highland Hospital for treatment by neurospecialists. The doctor was frank: a fall like this at her age could easily lead to serious complications or lasting damage.
As I anxiously waited for the results, I remembered that not long ago, I had made a donation on her behalf for the Bodhi Meditation San Francisco Medicine Buddha Hall construction initiative. I had hoped the Medicine Buddha would bless and protect her in times of danger.
And then—the miracle happened.
The second CT scan showed that the bleeding had not worsened. It remained stable.
The third CT scan came back with the same result.
The doctor offered a “rational” explanation: “This might be an old injury.”
But I knew in my heart, she had never fallen like this before. This wasn’t an old wound. This was the compassionate power of the Buddhas and Master JinBodhi protecting her, shielding her from what could have been a life-threatening disaster.
And the result? She was discharged the very same day.
A 90-year-old woman who suffered a brain bleed from a fall was sent home that evening! Even the neurosurgeon was stunned.
